Happy to Have Kicked the Habit!

About a year ago I stopped drinking carbonated beverages on the advice of a Veterinarian/Physician. I believe that my digestion has greatly improved as a result. Now last night on a late night trip home for some reason I decided to regress and have my old standard half gallon of Dr. Pepper (diet). Wow, did it ever taste weird and feel strange going down. My idea was that I needed something to keep me awake and that it did along with the indigestion. I wont make that a habit again.

Think about it, what is the benefit of sugary carbonated drinks? They enrich the sellers and sicken the consumers. Huh?! That's it these products enrich the producers and sellers of said beverages and kill slowly and miserably those who drink the stuff. And the diet varieties aren't that much better maybe worse.

Service is the Rent we pay for
the Space we Occupy on Earth!

THE NORSE WISDOM

There lies less good than most believe
In ale for mortal man.

A man knows nothing if he knows not
That wealth oft begets an ape.

A coward thinks he will live forever
If only he can shun warfare.

Tell one your thoughts, but beware of two.
All know what is known to three.

A silly man lies awake all night,
Thinking of many things.
When the mourning comes he is worn with care,
And his trouble is just as it was.

A paltry man and poor mind
Is he who mocks at all things.

Brave men can live well anywhere.
A coward dreads all things.

I once was young and traveled alone.
I met another and thought myself rich.
Man is the joy of man.
Be a friend to your friend.
Give him laughter for laughter.

To a good friend's house
The path is straight
Though he is far away.

In a maiden's words let no man place faith,
Nor in what a woman says.
But I know men and women both
Men's mind are unstable toward women.

None so good that he has no faults,
None so wicked that he is worth naught.

Moderately wise each one should be,
Not over wise, for a wise man's heart
Is seldom glad.

Cattle die and kindred die. We also die.
But I know one thing that never dies,
Judgment on each one dead.

The mind knows only
What lies near the heart.

Fattening up Cows with Candy!

You betcha and it's working just as well as with corn. The drought is pushing ranchers to extreme measures to get their stock to market at a profit. The mixture is candy with an ethanol by-product and a mineral nutrient.

”[A] mineral nutrient” is the key phrase in that last statement. Why use mineral nutrient for dumb cows? Animals get sickly without minerals in their diet. This is why ranchers put out salt and mineral licks in the pasture. If a cow in a feed lot just ate candy it would get fat and sickly. Huh, kinda like so many of the people in America are getting fat and sickly.

By consuming mineral supplements we keep ourselves healthy and save money on doctors bills. If our health is way out of whack we might do well to load up on some extra minerals. At the same time avoiding the bad stuff, such as fried food, etc.

Nutrient Dense Foods

If we ate the correct foods all the time we might not need supplements to maintain our health. Supplements are a fail safe way of making sure that we get all the essential minerals, vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids that we need to sustain health. Makes sense to me.

Below is a list of nutrient dense foods categorized by Dr. Fuhrman. If my memory serves me well he is the same fellow who recommends fasting as a way to a healthier life. I have fasted up to 21 days at a time and it is easier than one might think. I'll discuss this later.

2010 Obesity Rates

As the map above shows we are a putting on the pounds. Colorado is the least obese at 21%, stated otherwise that is about one person in five being overweight there in the mountains. Then there is the heaviest state of Mississippi at 34% and that would be about one person in three suffering in the heat and humidity with way too much excess body mass.

What's to be done. First, calm down. That's right, take it easy because stress can make you gain weight. That's the excuse I like best. It is true though that the flight or fight response triggered often unnecessarily causes us to conserve fat for later use. So let's count to ten when frustrated and maybe learn a meditation technique so as to chill.

Next, the standard stuff. Eat less, exercise more. Another way to say it with less sarcasm, as is often the case but I'm in this boat and I'm not cutting myself is we would do well to learn how to eat to live not live to eat. Motion is the lotion of the soul. Personally, I just feel better after a walk or weeding the garden. Do some activity you enjoy because it's all good for us to be moving about.
