Fattening up Cows with Candy!

You betcha and it's working just as well as with corn. The drought is pushing ranchers to extreme measures to get their stock to market at a profit. The mixture is candy with an ethanol by-product and a mineral nutrient.

”[A] mineral nutrient” is the key phrase in that last statement. Why use mineral nutrient for dumb cows? Animals get sickly without minerals in their diet. This is why ranchers put out salt and mineral licks in the pasture. If a cow in a feed lot just ate candy it would get fat and sickly. Huh, kinda like so many of the people in America are getting fat and sickly.

By consuming mineral supplements we keep ourselves healthy and save money on doctors bills. If our health is way out of whack we might do well to load up on some extra minerals. At the same time avoiding the bad stuff, such as fried food, etc.

Nutrient Dense Foods

If we ate the correct foods all the time we might not need supplements to maintain our health. Supplements are a fail safe way of making sure that we get all the essential minerals, vitamins, amino acids and fatty acids that we need to sustain health. Makes sense to me.

Below is a list of nutrient dense foods categorized by Dr. Fuhrman. If my memory serves me well he is the same fellow who recommends fasting as a way to a healthier life. I have fasted up to 21 days at a time and it is easier than one might think. I'll discuss this later.

2010 Obesity Rates

As the map above shows we are a putting on the pounds. Colorado is the least obese at 21%, stated otherwise that is about one person in five being overweight there in the mountains. Then there is the heaviest state of Mississippi at 34% and that would be about one person in three suffering in the heat and humidity with way too much excess body mass.

What's to be done. First, calm down. That's right, take it easy because stress can make you gain weight. That's the excuse I like best. It is true though that the flight or fight response triggered often unnecessarily causes us to conserve fat for later use. So let's count to ten when frustrated and maybe learn a meditation technique so as to chill.

Next, the standard stuff. Eat less, exercise more. Another way to say it with less sarcasm, as is often the case but I'm in this boat and I'm not cutting myself is we would do well to learn how to eat to live not live to eat. Motion is the lotion of the soul. Personally, I just feel better after a walk or weeding the garden. Do some activity you enjoy because it's all good for us to be moving about.

Gluten is bad news for our health.

I did not know this. This is news to me today. I watched Dr. Glidden's video on this subject. I recommend that one and all watch it. You can go to Dr. Glidden's website and sign up for his e-mail service and he will send you a link or contact me and I have the link that I'll send to you.

After watching the video I'm going to go on a gluten free diet as much as I can. No sweet bread, hamburger or hotdog buns, tortillas and even my morning oatmeal will have to go. I'm only going to make the exception for now with the oat meal until what I have is consumed as I don't believe in throwing stuff away.

The main point that Dr. Glidden and Dr. Wallach make is that we get sick because of malnutrition. We are malnourished due to absorption problems caused by hard to digest gluten. We can’t eat enough to supply the essential nutrients we need hence the suggestion of using supplements.

Eat fast fried food and die young!

The high temperatures used in making those tasty greasy French fries may very well be killing us. Certain foods cooked at temperatures in excess of 120 degrees Celsius (248 Fahrenheit) have more of the chemical acrylamide. Acrylamide is also found in cigarette smoke and is a potential carcinogen that causes neurological damage in high doses.

Why risk losing even a year off your life just for the “pleasure” of eating potato chips, French fries or any other harshly prepared fried food. Respected doctors such as Dr. Wallach and Dr. Glidden say that quitting the fried food will add 5-10 years of healthy life. It makes sense to follow their advice.

Oh, My Achilles Hill!

Honestly, I am trying to eat healthier and in modest quantities. Yet, I have this one very mountain like obstacle to over come. I just plain like eating and eating and eating! Buffets are my main Achilles hill. They seem like such bargains to me as I can have as much as I like for a fairly reasonable prize.

Golden Corral is the hill I most often try to surmount. It's not their fault. They have a good variety of dishes that temp me. My belly has left there satisfied many a time with my belt let out some. Butt, if I keep saying that I'm trying to eat healthier does my good intention count for something? I hope so.

Next time I'm in Las Vegas surely it wont hurt to check out the biggest buffet on the strip with 524 menu item, right? Who could possible go to Las Vegas without going to a couple of buffets? They call the newest biggest buffet on the strip “Bacchanal” but I think “Chubbies” would have been a better name.

Daniel here keeping on sincerely, trying to get healthy!
